A new vision for 2019
Twenty-two years ago, in October 1996, COMECE launched Europe-Infos, a monthly paper publication thought “to keep the Bishops’ Conferences and the local Church in the Member States abreast of the major issues on the agenda of the European institutions”.
In that historical moment, when the internet was far away from being the powerful tool we use today, establishing Europe-Infos was a wise move to provide a panorama of the European social, political and legal developments.
For more than two decades, Europe-Infos alimented the debate proposing Christian opinions, articles, and analysis on all phenomena affecting the daily life of persons, families and communities across Europe.
While the European Community was rapidly making its way towards the European Union, COMECE and the Jesuit European Social Centre (JESC) joined their forces and transformed Europe-Infos into a forum of dialogue gathering the voices of those working for the common good, building up and enriching the European Union as “project for peace”.
As explained in “A New Birth”, Europe-Infos’ very first editorial article, “[…] communication has become more rapid […] and information needs have changed”. Today, like back in 1996 when Europe-Infos was born, we feel the need to adapt to the changing world of communication.
2019 is expected to be a year of many changes in the EU: the European Parliament elections, a new Commission, a new President of the European Council, and Brexit. We will do our best to propose to you new ways to exchange on key challenges for Europe’s common good from a Christian perspective.
